The Merry Frolics of Satan
"The Merry Frolics of Satan" (Les Quat'Cents Farces du diable) is a 1906 French silent film by Georges Méliès, and is based on the legend of Faust. With a wide range of instruments, and layers of music and sound, we try to reflect the playfulness and comedy in the film.
Méliès was well known for the use of special effects, popularizing such techniques as substitution splices, multiple exposures, time-lapse photography, dissolves, and hand-painted colour.
The silent film concert is part of the project "Lyden av Méliès", a collaboration between Cinemateket in Oslo, Kjetil Schjander Luhr and Kristin Bolstad.
