The Conquest of the Pole
"The Conquest of the Pole" (À la conquête du pôle) is a 1912 French silent film by Georges Méliès, and is inspired of the many expeditions going on at that time. With a wide range of instruments, and layers of music and sound, we try to reflect the playfulness and comedy in the film, both also paint the atmosphere of a beautiful journey through the starry sky to a threatening ice cold landscape .
Méliès was well known for the use of special effects, popularizing such techniques as substitution splices, multiple exposures, time-lapse photography, dissolves, and hand-painted colour.
This silent film concert is part of the project "Lyden av Méliès", a collaboration between Cinemateket in Oslo, Kjetil Schjander Luhr and Kristin Bolstad.
